Sammanfattning

14 000 hip arthroplasties are performed in Sweden yearly. Even if the primary surgery is done correctly and the implants are good some prosthesis will come loose in the long run. The revision rate in Sweden is the lowest in the world due to the data from the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Registry from which data have been used to select the best implants and the best operating techniques. The main reason for hip revision surgery is aseptic loosening. Computed tomography (CT) is a valuable tool for preoperative analyse. The operating technique options are many and depend on the method used for the primary operation, the quality of the bone and the patient demands. The results are generally good but not as good as for a primary hip arthroplasty, and the complication rate is higher.
