A world wide problem is lack of organs for transplantation. It is mainly in the intensive care that organ donors are identified and a well skilled firm organisation taking responsibility for organ donation questions within the intensive care is a necessity. Spain launched five years ago an educational program ETPOD involving donation organisations in 17 EU countries. Internet learning courses in all aspects of organ donation, donor identification, diagnosing brain death, family care, medical care of the donor and allocation of organs in which two trainers and two trainees for trainers took part. Education of total five persons becoming the competent team for transmitting the program to health professionals in all participating countries was the main focus. ETPOD is recommended by the European program in organ donation questions and is successfully implemented in the southern region of Sweden.
