This article presents a systematic electronic registration of small children's absence from day care age 0-6 years due to illness in a community (Fredensborg) during a four years period, along with the implementation of a hygiene policy. Results: The registration showed that the children age 0-3 had averagely 13 illness absence days per year and the children age 3-6 had averagely 7 illness absence days per year. Conclusion: When comparing these data to other studies Fredensborg community is relative low in number of illness absence days per child per year which indicates that a hygiene policy could have an effect on illness absence days among children 0-6 years old.
