Sammanfattning
At Århus University Hospital, strategies put in place for management, training, research, evidence-based knowledge and documentation have raised the profile of nursing as a valued profession. Professional development is particularly strengthened by a shared nursing job structure. The job structure is divided into 1) management, 2) clinical practice and competency development, 3) basic training, special- and supplementary training and 4) research and development. The article describes requirements for qualifications and competencies for the individual job categories.
A targeted focus on strategies and job structure has created a transparent system that provides good opportunities for managers and staff of all levels to assess career and educational opportunities. All strategies reflect the intentions stated in the hospital’s mission statement: "The greatest knowledge - the best treatment". A steering group and three focus groups ensure that knowledge, development and initiatives in the individual focus groups are exchanged and coordinated. Strategy-related work in nursing is a long and challenging process, and one that requires continual managerial involvement.
