Sammanfattning

SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network) is an expert group consisting of Scottish obesity specialists. Over the years SIGN has produced recommendations as regards strategies to combat the obesity epidemic. The 2010 SIGN version is a succinct summary of evidence based recommendations (Cochrane criteria) as regards prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity in children and adults. Most recommendations are well known, even outside the field of the specialists. However, the strength of the document is that every suggestion as regards diet, exercise, behaviour modification, bariatric surgery etc is related to published evidence, in total 319 references. No similar strategy to approach the obesity epidemic in Sweden has so far been developed, although in some regions such attempts are under way..
