Sammanfattning

The article briefly describes the recently adopted guidelines. The need to establish and empower regional multidisciplinary boards to manage screening programmes is emphasised. Liquid-based cytology is recommended for screening and HPV testing is introduced as triage for mild abnormalities (ASC-US/mild dysplasia) and for follow-up after treatment of high-grade lesions. All women with abnormal smears should undergo colposcopy unless HPV triage is performed with negative results. Professional standards for colposcopy and treatment are set. Treatment of women under 40 with CIN1 should be avoided and selected cases of CIN2 in the youngest age group can be monitored instead of undergoing immediate treatment. After treatment of high-grade lesions, follow-up for at least 25 years should be integrated in the screening programmes. More focus should be placed on increasing coverage. County health-care authorities are recommended to abolish screening fees and integrated information systems to keep track of all testing are recommended.
