Sammanfattning

Soap is widely used in Denmark for cleaning wounds. A new clinical guideline for cleaning acute and chronic wounds, Soap, rinsers and trauma rinsers, concludes that soap is not recommended for cleaning wounds. The critical argument against the use of soap for cleaning wounds comes from experiments that show that soap is cellulotoxic and can cause microvascular damage. Many international guidelines, now including the Danish guidelines, recommend use of tap water or isotonic saline for cleaning wounds. The amount of pressure used to apply the rinser to the wound is of major significance in reducing the bacterial count at the base of the wound.
