Sammanfattning

This short guide has explored some of the issues that radiographers and imaging department managers may wish to consider when implementing a RADS. Much of the content has been based on the personal experience of the authors and it is not intended to provide definitive or exhaustive guidance. Radiography is an evolving profession and it is important that radiographers everywhere feel supported and empowered to improve service delivery for the benefit of their patients. The implementation of a RADS is just one facet of individual and service development but may act as a catalyst for broader radiographer role extension and advancement. However, a RADS does not define the radiographers role and it should not take precedence over good quality radiography. Indeed, greater understanding of anatomical structures and their image appearances can improve radiographic technique and image quality as radiographers begin to not only understand the technical requirements of a radiographic image but also the diagnostic quality necessary for accurate interpretation. We hope that radiographers and imaging department managers find this publication useful. However, it is important to stress that a RADS is a communication system intended to improve patient care and therefore the impact of a RADS should be evaluated. The results of such evaluations should be shared with peers (locally, regionally, nationally and internationally) through relevant fora and publications to ensure the continuing development of the radiography evidence base.
