Etniske patienter i lokalpsykiatrien
Sammanfattning
The article presents the problems that may arise between nurses and patients of a non-Danish ethnic background and shows that these problems may be due to divergent expectations about the nurses' role. The article is based on a bachelor's thesis in which three women with non-Danish ethnic backgrounds are interviewed about their expectations concerning nurses and the care they provide in treatment in local psychiatry. The study shows that it is important that the nurse have both an understanding of the patient's cultural background and concerning the patient as a unique individual. The article proposes employment of cultural resource persons in the health care system to support nurses in providing cross-cultural care.
