Sammanfattning

In traditional gas anaesthesia more fresh gas flow and anaesthetic agent than needed have been utilized. With modern anaesthesia workstations and less soluble agents fresh gas flow close to metabolic need may be administered. With a structured educational programme, lecture as well as bedside, using a gaskinetics simulator, Gas Man®, and the ‘Net Gas Flow Table’, we have gone from low flow to close to closed circuit anaesthesia. The new routine including low flow induction has been implemented in our department involving everyone who administer anaesthesia. Sevoflurane consumption has been reduced by 35,1 %. Improved knowledge and skills have resulted in a higher degree of predictability of anaesthesia. The effect on environment and economy is beneficial.
