Sammanfattning

Two courses in connection to one of the generic competencies for residency training (medical science and quality development) were introduced in 2009/2010 by the office of the Director of residency training, Department of Research and Training, Karolinska University Hospital. An evaluation of the two courses was initiated. For evaluation to be able to function as a tool for quality development rather than an instrument for measuring ”customer satisfaction” it must be allowed to contain both descriptive and assessing elements. Evaluation as a tool for both development and decision making should be encouraged to be used to a larger extent in medical education; evaluation should be holistic and focus on the level of competence of an individual as well as the educational program per se.
