We report two cases of tickborne encephalitits (TBE) in an elderly couple with a previous history of primary vaccination against TBE. The risk for serious symptoms and complications when infected by TBE, is increasing with age. On the other hand the vaccination elicits a weaker antibody response after TBE-vaccination in individuals > 50 years of age. Our main message is both the different serological TBE-antibody pattern in a patient with TBE despite previous vaccinations as well as the importance to give elderly regular booster doses of TBE-vaccination, according to the recommended schedule.
