Sammanfattning

This article deals with an evaluation study of a curriculum program in nursing education. The aim of the study is to evaluate the learning outcome of the courses in science theory and methodology, and further on the relevance of these subjects in clinical and theoretical studies. The respondents were bachelor students in their final weeks before graduation in 2009. In general, the scores for learning outcome are lower than the scores for the relevance of the subjects. The scores for the relevance related to theoretical studies are much higher than related to clinical studies. The relatively high scores for theoretical studies are viewed in relation to curriculum requirements. The conclusion is that concrete and realistic requirements, related to theory of science, must be formulated in the curriculum for clinical studies. If these requirements make sense for the students and their supervisors, the students are likely to experience the relevance of these subjects in clinical decision making, in the same way as for theoretical studies, e.g. written assignments.
