Sammanfattning
This article highlights the important of integrating an interdisciplinary approach in clinical aspects of nurse training. In the Interdisciplinary Clinical Study unit the aim is "to create an authentic learning environment for students from disciplines that include occupational therapy, physiotherapy and nursing, as well as social and healthcare assistant students, which promotes individual student competencies and provides optimal opportunities for development of interdisciplinary competencies in order to provide beneficial patient outcomes." Interdisciplinarity is precisely one of the elements nursing theoretician Patricia Benner states as having potential to minimise the gap between the theoretical world and the reality of clinical practice.
Experience from the Interdisciplinarity Clinical Study Unit shows that an interdisciplinary approach gives nursing students a greater awareness of their own professionalism, and optimises their use of this in cooperation with the other professions. At the same time, it results in a greater understanding and respect between the individual professional groups. Consequently, the interdisciplinary clinical course is thought to improve nursing students’ ability to deal with the highly complex tasks within the health care system.
