Sammanfattning
Background: With the increasing number of people suffering from dementia, it will be important to focus on cultural activities which can provide good experiences and well-being for people with dementia. Aim: To gain insight and knowledge of how an adapted cultural activity programme could affect well-being in a group of patients with dementia. Method: A qualitative approach was chosen. Data were collected by non-participant observation of six patients and interviews with their relatives in connection with a cultural activity programme, including a journey to Spain. A hermeneutical analysis method was used. Findings: The analysis revealed that signs of well-being, based on observations and interviews were reflected in three themes: feeling good in the moment, sense of belonging and recognition. Conclusion: On the basis of the findings, it can be argued that a cultural activity programme, including a journey to Spain, can promote well-being for patients with dementia. Trained staff with interest and commitment as well as good knowledge of the target group is also important.
