Sammanfattning

In this case-report we describe a 40 year old man with newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus. After a long visit in Iraq he was admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö with a three months history of severe weight loss and weakness. His chest X-ray and CT scan of thorax showed multiple consolidations, some cavitating. TB was suspected but samples from ventricular lavage and bronchoscopy were negative in direct microscopy. After seven days the patient died. At autopsy disseminated Nocardiosis was diagnosed with multiple pulmonary abscesses and small abscesses in the myocardium, the kidneys, the mesentery and the thyroid glands. Pulmonary biopsies from the autopsy showed after 6 days of cultivating yellow orange colonies. 16S rDNA amplification and sequencing led to the discovery of N. farcinica.
