Sammanfattning
The following study is a retrospective study that involves 1440 trauma patients, registered in Trauma register Karolinska during 2009. Activation of the trauma team was related to injury severity, defined as Injury Severity Score (ISS) over and below 15. Over- and under triage was analyzed and described. The study showed an over triage, defined as trauma team activation to a patient with ISS < 15, of 78 percent and an under triage, defined as no trauma team activation to a patient with ISS > 15, of 5 percent. The 30-days mortality rate was 4 percent in the material and 16 percent in the group severely injured patients (ISS > 15). According to this study’s theoretical calculation, based on the material from 2009, there are options to lower over triage without putting the desirable low under triage at risk. The study gives a foundation for discussions considering trauma team activation and potential improvements in trauma care by an optimal use of resources.
