Sammanfattning

In a Cochrane review on reduced dietary salt for the prevention of cardiovascular disease the results of one study showed that salt restriction increased mortality. In normotensive and hypertensive patients, who were analysed separately, an insignificant reduction in cardiovascular events was found. If the studies were analysed together, a significant reduction of cardiovascular events was found. The authors of the Cochrane review concluded that "there is still insufficient power to exclude clinically important effects of reduced dietary salt on in normotensives and hypertensives". We find that this conclusion is somewhat backwards. We consider salt restriction to be an important tool for improving population health.
