Sammanfattning

In Sweden it has been a problem for quite some time that fewer and fewer physicians conduct research. For younger physicians, a prolonged internship combing both clinical work and research has been an option at Sahlgrenska University Hospital since year 2000. During 2009, a follow-up study by telephone interviews with 30 former research-interns was performed regarding their now ongoing research activity. The study shows that 83, 6 % of the interviewed physicians had ongoing research activity. The majority of the physicians combined research with clinical work. Almost all asked had a positive experience from research-internship in terms of merit values for future employment. The majority of the group has also advanced in academic degrees and merits. In conclusion, an internship combining research and clinical work facilitate a future research career.
