Sammanfattning

Clinical guidelines concerning investigation and treatment of patients with ordinary diseases are common in health care. They can be of national or local character. In the county of Jönköping in Sweden the county council has decided that local guidelines shall direct the investigation, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with common diseases. A web-based questionnaire was sent to 1024 physicians in hospitals and primary health care centres in the county (45% response rate). A vast majority of both specialist and doctors under education (76% and 77%) considered the local guidelines as very good or god for clinical decisions. Concerning workload 49% of the physicians in primary health care had the opinion that the local guidelines led to an increased workload in primary health care. It is important to increase the knowledge and use of the local guidelines.
