Sammanfattning
MDG 6 focuses on infectious diseases, especially tuberculosis, HIV/Aids and malaria. The first target (MDG6a) to halt the spread of HIV will probably be reached in high-burden countries, but MDG6b, to reach all in need with antiretroviral drugs, will not be reached as long as more than 2 new people are infected for every person initiated on treatment. The global spread of malaria has declined over the last decade largely due to increased access to impregnated mosquito nets and more efficacious antimalarial treatments, but high-endemic countries need continued efforts and the MDG6c malaria-target will not be reached. The MDG6b targets for tuberculosis in terms of reduced incidence, prevalence and mortality will all be reached at a global level, although treatment success rates still vary a lot between high-burden countries.
