Hand eczema is a chronic relapsing skin disease. The 1-year prevalence among adults is about 10 % and it affects women more often than men. It has been shown that hand eczema has profound effects on Quality of Life, both in the functional and mental dimensions. Patients with hand eczema change jobs more often, are more frequently on sick leaves and have a higher consumption of health care facilities. Prognosis in hand eczema is considered to be poor. Treatment encompasses local and systemic treatments as well as physical treatment with light. However, there is a need for more controlled, randomizes studies comparing different treatment modalities. There is also a need for increased knowledge about the importance of information and follow up.
