Sammanfattning
The uncontrolled and unlicensed use of products labelled as melanotan I and II, increase skin pigmentation by imitating alpha-MSH (alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone). These preparations are easily accessible on the internet and are self-administered by subcutaneous injections. We present the first two Swedish cases of eruptive nevi after injections of substances distributed as melanotan II. Multiple new nevi evolved in both patients after short use. Pre-existing nevi also became larger and darker in both cases. On examination all nevi appeared abnormally dark. After removal of one nevus in each patient, histology confirmed dysplastic features. After melanotan II use was discontinued, all nevi faded more or less in both cases while an additional nevus from one of the patients had to be removed. It was histologically confirmed as dysplastic. Physicians should be aware that these chemicals can complicate the clinical appearance of nevi, and advice against the use should be given.
