Sammanfattning

High-energy pelvis fractures are life-threatening injuries. Approximately 20 % of patients with high-energy pelvic injuries develop hemodynamic instability directly related to blood loss from the pelvic injury. Evaluation and management of patients with pelvic fractures is a multidisciplinary responsibility, requiring efficient assessment and rapid intervention. Early assessment by Orthopaedic surgeon familiar with pelvic factures allows the treatment team to establish diagnostic and treatment priorities end expedites the institution of life-saving manoeuvres. A thorough understanding of potential sources of bleeding and awareness of treatment options is essential for all physicians involved in the care of patients with pelvic fractures.
