Sammanfattning
The aim of this study was to gain insight into how plants in common areas, and a view of nature from windows at a rehabilitation centre can impact on well-being and mental restoration among course participants. Both individual in-depth interviews and group interviews were conducted among residents at a rehabilitation centre in Norway. All respondents were positive about the indoor plants. They expressed that the plants were comfortable to look at and contributed to a feeling of homeliness. The fact that plants were thriving and well-maintained seemed to be important for the positive experience. The respondents expressed that they sometimes needed time for themselves and that the room was a suitable place for withdrawal. View of the landscape from the bedrooms made the room more attractive, and it also had an impact on recovery in the sense that watching the landscape was perceived as calming.
