The purpose of this study was to describe the head nurses’ and nurses’ experiences of what is required to integrate the SVIP-model (Strengthened Supervision in Practice Study) in nursing homes. Practice fields and university colleges have a shared responsibility, both formally and professionally, to establish a learning environment for students that provides learning in line with national guidelines. It was on this basis, a new group supervision model (SVIP) for nursing students in guided practice was tried out. However, previous studies report that the nurses experienced that the SVIP-model to a limited extent had been implemented at management level in the nursing homes. Thus - it was important to investigate head nurses’ and nurses’ experiences of what is required to integrate the SVIP-model in nursing homes. An inductive approach for qualitative data analysis was chosen. Data were collected through six focus group interviews. As a result three qualitative categories emerged: To create the right conditions, to realize the need of support and to facilitate the development processes. The latent content was formulated in the following theme: Integration of a group supervision model in the practice field - ideal and reality. The conclusion indicated that implementation of the SVIP-model depended on the head nurses` attitudes. Attitudes were made visible through actions.
