Sammanfattning

Data from 56 Primary Health Care Centres in Sweden showed that antibiotic was prescribed in 44 % of visits for an infection. Of all antibiotics, 90 % was prescribed for 10 diagnoses, (acute cystitis 20%, tonsillitis 17% and acute otitis media (AOM) 15 %). There were great variation between centres in antibiotic use for different indications, most evident for the diagnoses acute bronchitis and tonsillitis. Unnecessary prescription of antibiotics may lead to side effects for patients but also to an increased prevalence of antimicrobial resistance.
