Sammanfattning

In palliative medicine the aim of the medical care is to ameliorate symptoms and increase quality of life. We have reviewed the literature to investigate the evidence for using methylphenidate for fatigue and cannabinoids for opioid resistant pain in palliative cancer patients. There are several clinical studies showing good effect of methylphenidate on fatigue in cancer patients. For cannabinoids there is today only one clinical study showing modest effect on opioid resistant pain in cancer patients. However, cannabinoids also have other potential beneficial effects on nausea, anxiety and anorexia. Both medicines seem to be well tolerated and we believe that they may have a role in palliative medicine. More research in this area is warranted.
