Sammanfattning
Background: Previous research has investigated and compared patients’ experiences of different examinations of colon like colography,
coloscopy and Computer Tomography- Colography - CTC.
Aim: To describe how the patients experienced Computer Tomography - CTC-examination.
Methods: Data was obtained from interviews with seventeen patients, analyzed with qualitative content analysis.
Findings: The result showed that the patient’s experiences of CTC are depending of both nurse’s encounter and patient's expectations and
experiences from previous treatment sessions. Patients felt safe when radiology nurse showed sensitivity, sense of humor and gave optimal oral
information, and when they had positive experiences from similar examinations. The lacks of information, along with the preparations for the
examination, were the main reasons why the patients felt discomfort. Patients could accept the discomfort of the examination because they
knew that it was important to find out what caused their problems. Results from this study can help the radiology nurse to individualize their
approach to patient care in upcoming encounters by knowing what it is that affects the individual patient's experiences of CTC.
