"Å delta med det du kan": Betydningen av meningsfulle aktiviteter i recoveryprosesser

This article describes how the organized low-threshold activities program «Step by Step» (SbS), aimed at people with substance abuse problems, is helping to create networks, commitment, quality of life and coping in an alcohol and drug-free environment. The study consists of a collaborative and participatory research approach and multistage focus group interviews. Four main findings were identified by a hermeneutic content analysis: - personal and social developing activities, - continuity and stability in life, - a meaningful alcohol- and drug free arena, and - to be met with respect and dignity.
SbS has succeeded in creating an arena with activities that provide opportunities for personal growth and development of a welcoming and appreciative character. Persons with substance abuse problems feel respected and accepted as they are, and wish to contribute and participate and contribute «with what they can».
