Sammanfattning
The morbidity in one of five patients is associated with life-style. In November 2011 the National Board of Health and Welfare presented National Guidelines for Methods of Preventing Disease. There is an ongoing process to reform the education of physicians in Sweden. This is an investigation of the education provided on life-style related health issues. A web-based questionnaire was distributed to those in Sweden responsible for the obligatory practice and education period of physicians’ AT-education (allmäntjänstgöring; foundation doctor). We found large variation in the time offered for this aspect of their education. The duration of teaching on alcohol, drugs, and tobacco, as well as issues related to diet and physical exercise, was usually no more than four hours. No more than 44 % said that they provided education in consultation techniques (such as motivational interviewing) for life-style issues.
