Sammanfattning

At present in Sweden, there are differences in the quality of care for older people in the 290 local municipalities. There is evidence that the provision of meaningful activities according to individual preferences, arenas that support social interaction, and continuous rehabilitation efforts contribute to healthy ageing. This type of services has not been sufficiently acknowledged and prioritized by the local municipalities in Sweden. There are examples from research on health promoting activities, physical meeting places for older people, continuous rehabilitation for those ageing with disabilities, and everyday rehabilitation integrated with home help services. There is an urgent need for an effective national strategy as well as collaborative efforts to ensure that the provision of care and rehabilitation for the older population is based in recent research and the best available knowledge.
