Två barn i varje skolklass med 7-åringar lider av enures. Skolhälsovården har en nyckelroll: enkät visar att förbättringar behövs
Sammanfattning
Enuresis is the second most common health problem in school-age children. Approximately 10 per cent are affected by the age of 7. Untreated, the condition has negative psychological effects. In order to investigate how the Swedish school health care system manages enuresis a questionnaire was sent to 297 schools. It was found that the school nurses usually (>80 %) were the ones who took care of the enuretic child, and the usual action taken was the provision of advice to the child’s family. When active treatment was given desmopressin was the first choice, and the enuresis alarm the second. The recommended age for start of active treatment is 6 years, according to the Swedish Enuresis Academy, but one third of the responders in this study suggested age 5,5. The enuretic child is often lost for follow-up in the health care system. It is recommended that uncomplicated enuresis should be handled in primary care with support of the school health services.
