Akut appendicit ger få anmälningar om skada. Men det borde kunna bli ännu färre, visar analys av LÖF-material
Sammanfattning
The number of claims reported to the Insurance Company LÖF for patient injuries after the treatment of appendicitis is low in Sweden. The average rate is about a total of 50 cases per year corresponding to one claim for two hundred appendectomies or one claim of two hundred complications after operative treatment of appendicitis based on the assumption that 10?000 appendectomies are performed per year. Between 2000 and 2011 forty per cent of the claims were accepted, the same as the general acceptance level. The number of claims dealing with appendicitis has decreased from 324 between 2000 and 2005 to 298 between 2006 and 2011, leading to the decreased rate of compensation from fifty-five per cent to thirty per cent. Continuous analysis of claims to the Swedish patient insurance may be helpful in improving patient safety by scrutinizing the application of the Swedish Patient Injury Act. The results of this study indicate that the insurance company has kept the same criteria for the assessments of reimbursement after injuries associated with appendectomy.
