Sammanfattning

Acute pharyngo-tonsillitis is one of the most common reasons for consulting in primary care. Around 1/3 of the infections are bacterial, mostly beta-hemolytic streptococci group A but also group C and G. Recently Fusobacterium necrophorum has been observed as a common pathogen, mainly among individuals aged 16–30 years. Acute pharyngo-tonsillitis may sometimes progress to serious local or generalized complications. In some patients current Swedish guidelines may result in a too restricted use of antibiotics.
