Sammanfattning
Climate change will cause marked changes in the length and climate of the different seasons and affect extreme weather event patterns in Sweden. This will affect the transmission of some infectious diseases and increase heat-related mortality and morbidity. However, such health effects may be avoided to a large extent by adopting sustainable adaptive policies and measures, that include education of personnel and students within the public health sector, up-dated risk information to the general public and specific vulnerable groups, as well as targeted preventive programs and adaptive actions with focus on handling changes in in-door air quality and temperatures, drinking and bathing water quality, food safety, animal health/zoonosis, and vector-borne disease transmission. Surveillance of changes in risks at the EU level will ensure early warning of changes in disease threats.
