Sammanfattning
Better management of OsteoArthritis (BOA) is a national programme with three branches: 1. Patient education (Supporting self-
management of osteoarthritis (OA)), 2. Staff training for implementation and evaluation, 3. The National Quality register – BOA-register. The supporting self-management of the OA programme is evidence-
based, in accordance with guidelines and delivered by physiotherapists in primary care. The aim is to avoid ill health through increased physical activity and to provide participants with knowledge of how to self-manage OA. Results are reported to the BOA-register using patient reported outcomes. After one year 75 percent of patients report that they use what they have learnt at least on a weekly basis. 2/3 of patients on waiting list for orthopedic consultation, who were offered the self-management programme during waiting time, were satisfied and declined to see the orthopedic surgeon after the programme. Still, after three years, 50 percent remained satisfied without surgery.
