Korrekt venös blodprövetaking - avhengig av sentralisert eller desentralisert modell?
Sammanfattning
Correct blood sample collection is important for the quality of the samples. The purpose of this
study was to investigate whether deviation from the approved guidelines depends upon whether the
hospital practises a decentralised or a centralized organisation of blood sample collection.
Personnel performing phlebotomy in hospitals with centralised or decentralised organisation,
respectively, were observed while collecting blood samples during the course of one working day.
Eleven nurses working in a Swedish hospital, which has about 30 years experience with the
decentralised model, were observed. Eleven biomedical laboratory scientists in a Norwegian
hospital represented the centralised model.
The results indicate that the nurses (decentralised model) failed to follow the correct guidelines more
often than the biomedical laboratory scientists (centralised model).
Based on the fact that the Swedish nurses have blood sample collection as part of their education, it
would seem that education alone is not enough. The quality assessment culture in the different
departments, with dissimilarities in (degrees of) awareness of the reasons for following the approved
guidelines, may be the cause of the observed differences in our study.
