Sammanfattning
There is international consensus that patients younger than 50 years of age presenting with uninvestigated dyspepsia without any alarm
symptoms or signs shall be managed according to the »test and treat« strategy and not with an initial upper endoscopy. This has however not been
applied in Sweden. One reason might be the lack of health economic analysis performed according to the Swedish health care system. In this
report we have applied costs according to Swedish conditions to a model with a decision tree analysis. Our health economic analysis indicate that
the »test and treat« model is an alternative to including gastroscopy in the primary management of dyspepsia in younger patients, saves money
and reduces the number of gastroscopies by 80%.
