Sammanfattning
Background - Pathological fractures of the mandible are most
often associated with osteoradionecrosis, osteomyelitis and malignant
bone lesions. Although rare, pathological fractures may
also be caused by benign bony lesions. Treatment of mandibular
pathological fractures differs according to the aetiology and
varies from non-surgical treatment with antibiotics to segmental
resection of the mandible.
Case study - The case of a 15-year-old girl with a combination
of a traumatic and pathological fracture of the mandible caused
by a central giant cell granuloma is presented and considerations
regarding treatment are discussed.
Conclusion - In the present case, the pathological fracture was
initially stabilized and the central giant cell granuloma was treated
medically. Subsequently, the pathological process was enucleated.
Complete healing of the jaw fracture and central giant cell
granuloma was observed four years later
