"Se meg, i tide": ADHD som tidlig risikofaktor for rusmiddelmisbruk - en sammenlignende studie
Sammanfattning
The paper focuses on what characterises patients with the dual diagnosis substance use
disorder (SUD) and ADHD on a number of psychological, social, and medical risk factors. Two groups
of SUD patients at a Norwegian treatment facility, one with ADHD (n=95) and the other without (n=102)
were compared on a number of risk factors. The CAADID interview was applied, a validated
instrument focusing on the development and the diagnosis of ADHD. The ADHD group was
significantly slower in their infant development, experienced greater problems with controlling
temper, had a poorer educational history, experienced more family and environmental trauma, and
were more accidentprone. Despite these obvious problems, only 17 % of the ADHD patients had
earlier been identified and treated for their ADHD. This dual diagnosis group has been exposed to a
number of risk factors during childhood and adolescence, emphasising the need for early detection
and treatment of ADHD to prevent the development of SUD.
