Även ibuprofen, inte bara paracetamol, kan ge barn allvarlig leverskada. NSAID bör användas med försiktighet hos barn, visar fall med letal utgång
Sammanfattning
Infections are frequent in children and do often result in high fever. In recent years the pediatric use of acetaminophen has been questioned which has resulted an
increasing use of ibuprofen. The effects of acetaminophen on the liver are dose-dependent and well documented, rendering it safe if used according to the existing international
and national recommendations. The hepatotoxic effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) are unpredictable and many of the pathogenetic factors causing the rare
cases of NSAID-induced idiosyncratic liver injury are still unknown, making their use more hazardous. By reporting two cases of NSAID-associated fatal liver failure we want to
warn against liberal use of NSAID to children.
