Sammanfattning
The article describes a study of what is special about a hospice, from the perspective of
patients, relatives and staff. This is charted through a focus group interview with staff and semi-
structured interviews with four patients and four relatives. The results are compared to two studies
conducted at the same hospice and a review of twenty EORTC (European Organisation for Research
and Treatment of Cancer) surveys. The study shows that patients and relatives feel seen, heard and
respected and that staff view themselves as competent, but that they are also aware of their own
vulnerability. Everyone feels that time, serenity and a sense of security are of great importance and
that the individual - not the illness - is in focus. For nurses at the hospice, the study will serve as
confirmation of practice, and it can help inspire hospital nurses, leaders and politicians.
