Sammanfattning
For a long time, frail old persons have been offered residential care in special
housing units. The Swedish Official Report SOU 2008:113 proposed increased
production of "in between" housing, i.e. senior and assisted living housing to
complement ordinary housing and residential care units. What does integration
and segregation mean in this context? Questions of this character have
been illuminated in practice oriented investigations and development work in
a nationwide programme; "Growing Old Living Well"1.The overwhelming majority
of older people live in ordinary housing. Segregated models; senior housing,
assisted living and residential care units, can comply with specific needs
and requirements. The delimited living space can be balanced by openness
towards the neighbourhood. Security in the housing environment can contribute
to empowerment and participation in the external community.
