To assess the effect of a course for social workers in the jobcentres regarding psychiatric topics with the aim of early recognition of mental disorders a quasi-experimental design
was carried out: 189 sick-listed individuals were in the intervention group and 208 individuals were in the control group. The intervention did not, as expected, reduce the length of
sickness absence. On the contrary, sickness absence increased, however in multivariable analyses non-significantly. It is discussed that the effect of the intervention may appear later
which can be suspected based on the results of other studies.
