Sammanfattning
Prevention and management of Early Childhood Caries
Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a severe health problem with biological,
social and behavioral risk factors. The development and
progression of caries in young children can be very rapid if, once
the process of decay starts, no preventive action is taken. A child
with ECC may suffer considerable pain. The aim of this presentation
was an update of knowledge how to prevent and manage
EEC. Daily use of fluoridated toothpaste for all children beginning
when the first tooth erupt and professional fluoride varnish applications
twice yearly for high-risk children are evidens-based
methods to prevent caries development. On the other hand, there
is still a gap of knowledge how to best manage the early childhood
caries lesions. It is therefore likely that preventive measures
have to be started as soon as possible to be successful.
