Forekomst, diagnostik, aetiologi, forebyggelse og behandling af tanderosioner
Sammanfattning
Dental erosions are chemical wear of enamel and dentine
caused by acids that are not produced by bacteria in dental biofilms.
The prevalence of dental erosion is commonly presumed
to be increasing among adolescence and teenagers especially
in boys of 15-17 years of age. Initially erosions are characterized
by a smoothed and shining enamel surface, but otherwise
normal tooth morphology. Further progression results in thinning
of the enamel layer, colour change, increased dental sensitivity
as well as reduction of crown height. One of the main causes of
erosion is the increasing consumption of acidic soft drinks and
sports drinks with very low pH values. Reduced saliva secretion
and grinding of teeth may exacerbate the condition considerably.
Early diagnosis and prevention of further progression of the
condition is essential. This includes advices relating to the intake
of soft drinks and acidic foodstuffs, as well as monitoring the
progression by use of dental cast models
