Sammanfattning

Jan Hendrik van den Berg was a psychiatrist, psychologist, historian, phenomenologist and a brilliant writer. He describes how people's life world change with time and place. Van den Berg shows through his rich descriptions of everyday phenomena how a phenomenological approach can provide research and practice the humanity in illness by emphasizing experience. Van den Berg does not distinguish between the «within» and the «outside» perspective of human subjectivity because subjectivity exists in the world. The answer to questions like: «How is it to experience a particular phenomenon?» is therefore not to be found within the individual, but in the person's description of their world.
