Sammanfattning
At the Regional Resource Centre on Violence, Traumatic Stress and Suicide Prevention, Central
Norway, we conducted a survey of the teaching offered in suicide prevention in relevant university
and college educations in Central Norway, and psychology educations nationally. We found that with
a few exceptions, where there was more or no teaching at all, suicide prevention was mainly taught
for 2-4 hours. In addition to being too little, the teaching was often connected to psychiatry or mental
disorders, which is unfortunate. Suicide prevention must be integrated in relevant curricula, the
teaching should be more comprehensive, and include mental and public health perspectives.
