Sammanfattning
Diagnosis, treatment-planning and decision-making
has in most dental contexts been connected
to intraoral and dental considerations to solve a disease
or functional problem. During the last few decades
a broader perspective on this matter, including
needs and demands, has developed. In esthetic
dentistry, individual wishes have almost taken over
from professional judgments, sometimes with a high
biological price. The Swedish National Guidelines,
2011, point out that there are still gaps in the knowledge
of how patients experience a condition before
and after treatment, related to function, comfort
and life-style, and including patient’s feelings of involvement
in the process. These aspects of dental
care are considered, using a literature review, discussions
and clinical examples, to create the basis
for further exploration and analysis.
